INCREASE IN COUNTERFEIT BILLS

The Bemidji Police Department is alerting local businesses to be aware of counterfeit $20 bills. These counterfeit bills have been reported by many different businesses in the Bemidji Area within the past week. Bemidji Police have also received information from area banks who report the bills are coming from businesses throughout Beltrami County.

The Bemidji Police Department encourages local businesses to become familiar with identifying counterfeit bills, identification tips may be reviewed at the United States Secret Service website located at: http://www.secretservice.gov/money_detect.shtml Businesses should be familiar with and know the security features built into U.S. Currency, which may assist in detecting and identifying counterfeit bills.

Please report any suspicious activity to the Bemidji Police or Beltrami County Sheriff's Office immediately. If you suspect a counterfeit bill is being presented, please attempt to gather as much information as possible; including time of incident, suspect description and any vehicle information available.
