Mahnomen woman enters plea in stabbing case

WHITE EARTH—A Mahnomen woman accused of breaking into a man's home and stabbing him in March has entered pleas to felony charges in Clearwater County District Court.

Serena Oppegard, 41, was facing felony first-degree burglary of an occupied dwelling and second-degree assault charges. Oppegard pleaded not guilty to the charges April 29 but changed her plea through a plea agreement May 15. The second-degree assault charge was changed to third-degree.

When law enforcement arrived at the scene on Strawberry Mountain Road in Clearwater County at approximately 5:13 a.m. on March 14, Oppegard was found in a bathroom in the man's residence. Officers observed a stab wound on the victim's left hand and found a bloody knife in a bedroom, according to court documents.
