Woman crashes in school zone, says she took heroin

A 27-year-old woman who told authorities she took heroin earlier in the morning ran a stop sign at a high rate of speed and crashed into a telephone pole in the school zone near the Saginaw Chippewa Academy elementary school Thursday morning.

The woman, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was unresponsive but breathing when officials arrived about 8:30 a.m., but later woke up, saying she had fallen asleep while driving and had taken heroin about seven hours earlier.
