Walking down Memory Lane: Leech Lake Diabetes Fitness Center Memorial 5K draws hundreds (w/video)

CASS LAKE—It started as a splattering of blue specks Thursday morning and evolved into a sea of cyan waving through the streets of Cass Lake. Walkers, runners and anyone willing to go the distance—five kilometers—donned matching blue t-shirts and hit the trail for the Leech Lake Diabetes Fitness Center's 23rd annual Memorial Walk/Run.

Leech Lake Diabetes Fitness Center director Eric Jackson said the event takes place each year on the Thursday before Memorial Day as a reminder of those who have gone before us. A memorial banner with handwritten names of those being honored adorned a wall at the registration site in the old Cass Lake high school gym. The Boys & Girls Club now occupies the building.
