Murphy Alfred Thomas III, “Little Murph”, Miskwa Miigwan Kekag, “Red Tail Hawk”, age 37, of Ponemah, began his spiritual journey on May 16, 2015 in Redby. He was born on October 9, 1977 in Red Lake the son of Murphy Thomas, Jr. and the late Drusilla Smith.

He attended Red Lake High School and worked as a security guard for Leech Lake and Seven Clans Casino. Little Murph was also a restaurant host at the Palace Casino.

Little Murph enjoyed traveling with his dad to various pow-wows throughout the U.S. and Canada. He enjoyed playing basketball and was one of the original members of the “North Lake” basketball team. Little Murphy also played softball for Mike Fairbanks’ team “Western Bank Softball Team”. He loved spending time with his nieces and nephews who are Tyus Whitefeather, Talia Whitefeather, Mikaila Johnson, Kyrell Johnson, Rydell Johnson, Timothy, Tyrell and Tyren Johnson, Korbin Brown, Kaiti Brown and Jack Brown.

The family that Little Murph joins again are his mother; Drusilla Smith, grandparents; Murphy, Sr. and Katherine Thomas, uncles; Robert “Bozo” Thomas, Richard Cloud, Ronald M. Cloud, Tom Jay Stillday, Sr., Louis and Jane Whitefeather, and Rufus and Ethel Johnson.

Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory are his father; Murphy Thomas, Jr. of Ponemah, step mother; Sophia Bissonette, his significant other; Chelsea Deserly, brothers; Christopher Thomas, Kwam Thomas and Koons Thomas, Allen Hardy, Moose, Bobby Jo Kingbird, Dexter Stillday, Tom Hardy, and Cam Hardy, sisters; Valene, Amanda Johnson, Rhonda Thomas and Valerie Stillday, aunts; Barb Thomas, Jeanette Thomas, Franny Miller Cloud, Mary Lou, Nogi Natewa and Muggs Crowe.

A wake for Little Murph will begin at 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 20, 2015 and continue until the 11:00 a.m., service on Friday, May 22, all held at the Boys and Girls Club in Ponemah. Allen Hardy will be the spiritual leader. Pallbearers will be Derek Seki, Darrell “Sparky” Seki, Jr., Mike Fairbanks, Darnell Perkins, Mike Johnson, Wayne “Moose” Johnson, Jr., Al Cloud, and Rodney Lussier. Alternate pallbearers will be Dexter Stillday, Challenge “Jim” Johnson and Darrell Crowe, Sr. Honorary pallbearers will be his family and friends, Wayne Johnson, Sr., Alexandra Dow, Chairman Darrell Seki, Sr., Melvin Godman, Bob Natewa, Rudy Johnson, Lloyd Johnson, Roselee Desjarlait, all of the North Lake Ballers and softball teammates.
