4th Annual Red Lake Nation Elder's Gathering Comes to a Close on Tuesday - P8

RED LAKE, MN - Over 400 Red Lake elders took part in day two of the 4th Annual Red Lake Nation Elder's Gathering, which began with registration at 8 AM at the Red Lake Casino Event Center on Monday, May 4, 2015.

Day two activities included keynote speaker Tatanka Means, a talent show for elders and the annual king and queen selections.

Winning the talent show was Richard Barrett, who donated his winnings to all those that participated.

A new king and queen were also crowned by popular vote, and it was Susan Johnson as the new queen, and Willy Strong as the new king.

RED LAKE, MN - Almost 400 Red Lake elders took part in the 4th Annual Red Lake Nation Elder's Gathering, which began with registration at 8 AM at the Red Lake Casino Event Center on Monday, May 4, 2015.

There were numerous activities scheduled for the event, which included meals, Eugene Stillday with the opening ceremonies, honor songs by the Red Lake Nation Singers, presentions to the elders on the services from the Elderly Maintenance Program; Red Lake CAP; the Red Lake Nation College; the Constitutional Reform Initiative; Comprehensive Health Services; the Division of Rehabilitation Services; the Internal Audit Department; Equaywiigamig; and Red Lake Detention Services.

Comedian Jon Roberts performed on day one, and presentations continued with the Red Lake Immersion Program and the Red Lake Nation Adult Protection Team, followed by performances by the Red Lake Nation Royalty.

Over 20 booths were also available for elders which included the Red Lake Chemical Health Program, Red Lake DNR, Balancing Our Lifestyles Program, Red Lake Economic Development Program, Tribal IDs and more.

Drawings were held after lunch, and an honor song and closing of the two-day event ended the conference.
