Michelle Obama makes history with Native American comments

First Lady Michelle Obama brought national attention to Native American issues this month.

And it only took acknowledging the truth left out of American history books.

Earlier this month, she delivered a speech at the Creating Opportunities for Native Youth White House convening, stating, “Folks in Indian Country didn’t just wake up one day with addiction problems. Poverty and violence didn’t just randomly happen to this community. These issues are the result of a long history of systematic discrimination and abuse.”
