Harry Royce Johnson, Jr., 87, “Endaasowinding” which means “Everwind” of the Migizii (Eagle) Clan, of Ponemah, began his journey to the spirit world from the Jourdain-Perpich Extended Care Center in Red Lake on Tuesday, April 14, 2015. He was born on May 13, 1927 in Ponemah, MN to Harry and Dora (Dow) Johnson, Sr.

Harry was a master gardener and loved to work on his yard. He was always working outdoors and could be seen cutting his grass at least 2 - 3 times a week. His made sure his lawn was immaculate! He enjoyed traveling to powwows all over Canada and the United States. Harry was a Champion Traditional powwow dancer and won many contests. He spent his working years as a carpenter, fisherman, logger and as a custodian at the Ponemah School for 40 years. Harry took great pride in his work and was very particular in everything he did…it had to be just right! He was a gentle man who loved his cuddling with newborn babies. Harry liked to sing for the elders at the nursing home and making everyone laugh. He loved to tease everyone and had a funny way of coming up with nicknames for everyone. Harry had a soft spot for his dogs, especially Shidinski and Loner. He liked to eat just about everything but his favorite food was KFC chicken. He loved his family deeply and he'll be missed by many.

The family that he joins in the spirit world are his parents; Harry, Sr. and Dora, brothers; Marcel and Isaac Johnson, sisters; Mary Wilson, Elsie Mosher, Julia Oakgrove, Maggie Fineday, Rebecca Johnson, Doris Johnson and Agnes Johnson, grandsons; Chris and Kyle Schoenborn and granddaughters Tashia Johnson, Cami Johnson and JolieAna Cobenais.

He leaves behind his wife of 68 years Susan Johnson, children; Darlene (Lloyd) Johnson, Darrell (Roxanne) Johnson, Doris (Darrell) Seki, Linda (Pete) Perkins, Pamela (Eugene) Perkins, Gordon (Marlys) Johnson, Steven Johnson, Millie (Gary) Johnson and Dell (Daniel) Perkins, adopted daughters; Avanelle and Lavonne Greenleaf, namesakes; Damien Thunder, Thea Ogema and Anita Johnson, 28 grandchildren, 71 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.

A wake for Harry will begin at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 16th and continue until his traditional service at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 18th all being held at the Boys and Girls Club in Ponemah. Steve Jackson will be Harry’s spiritual leader. Helping to lay Harry to rest are Darrell “Sparky” Seki, Darnell Perkins, Kirby Perkins, Challenge Johnson, Clyde “Sonny” Perkins, Josh Neadeau, Tanner Glynn, Scott Perkins, Dominick Johnson and Jared Johnson. Alternate pallbearers are Daniel Perkins, Jr., Anthony Johnson, Kelly Perkins, Kip Perkins, Casey Perkins, Derick Seki, Steven Johnson, Jr. and Derek Spears. His honorary pallbearers are Eugene Stillday, Bruce Dow, Edward Dow, Darrell Seki, Sr., Marcel Johnson, Jr., Pete Oakgrove, Monte Hammitt, Myrna Hardy, Joyce Brown, Margaret Perkins, Ruth Soukup, Damien Thunder, Marie Kovar, Lois Johnson, Georgianna Ogema and Beverly Johnson. Interment will be in the Family Burial Grounds at Ponemah following his Saturday service.
