LAPORTE — It wasn’t baseball weather on Tuesday, but it didn’t stop Laporte High School and Red Lake High School from opening the baseball season.
Despite cold and snowy conditions, the Wildcats (1-0) picked up the victory against the Warriors (0-1) in tight 9-8 win.
“It’s huge to start the season with a win,” Laporte head coach Randy Reimer said. “We have 14 guys on our team and I played all 14 so they really felt like this was a team win. Cool way to start the season.”
Senior Austin Moss got the win for Laporte by going 6 1/3 innings.
He pitched six innings and didn’t go out for the seventh with the Wildcats up 9-6, but after the reliever gave up two runs in the inning Moss re-entered as the pitcher and got the final out.
