Former tribal police chief indicted for embezzling tribal funds

A grand jury in Seattle has indicted a former police chief of the Swinomish Tribe and Stanwood resident on six counts of wire fraud, and four counts of theft of tribal funds. Acting U.S. Attorney Annette L. Hayes announced March 19 that Thomas J. Schlicker, 57, of Stanwood, was indicted on charges he embezzled more than $30,000 from the tribe.

Schlicker served as the Swinomish police chief from 1997 until September 2014, when he was fired.

Schlicker is scheduled to appear for arraignment this week.
