BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji School Board heard Monday from Superintendent Jim Hess on actions that could be taken to address a potential 2015-16 budget deficit of between $1.8 million to $2.3 million, due at least in part to the district’s addition of specialized programs and staff aimed at closing achievement gaps.
“This year as a, I think, defining moment, the board decided it was very important to do what we could to close the achievement gap,” he said. “We've been working on that. We have also been working on trying to balance the student and staff ratio and get to the proper level of staffing in the district.
