Gas Leak shuts down Red Lake Elementary School for two days

RED LAKE, MN - A gas leak in the main propane tank at the Red Lake Elementary School and the Early Childhood Center was reported on Wednesday, March 18, 2015. School was not in session at the time, except for after school activities.

Chris Borg, Red Lake School District Grounds and Safety Director, contacted the Red Lake Fire Department along with those responsible for the tank and followed the district policies.

At that time they tried to fix the problem, but were unable to do so that late at night.

School was called off for the Red Lake Elementary School and Early Childhood Center, which included the Red Lake Head Start, on the following day, Thursday, March 19, 2015.

By the evening of Thursday, and because the propane had to taken out of the main tank and onto two tanker trucks, they were unable to finish the needed repairs.

School was once again cancelled for RLES and the RLECC for Friday, March 20, 2015, and it is projected that everything will be repaired and safe by Monday morning.
