Earl James Kjos Sr.

(February 9, 1946 - March 10, 2015)

Earl James Kjos Sr., age 69, of Waubun, MN, died on Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at home under Hospice Care of the Red River Valley.

Earl James Kjos was born February 9, 1946, to Millard and Lourena (Erickson) Kjos in Ada, MN. He grew up on a farm west of Waubun and attended country school in Popple Grove and later Waubun High School. Following graduation, Earl worked for area farmers in the community and later moved to Minneapolis, MN, in 1965. Earl was united in marriage to Cheryl Pederson on September 24, 1966. The couple made their home in Minneapolis and Earl worked for Tool Products. They were blessed with three children: Earl Jr., Lori and Mark. In 1971, the family moved back to the Waubun area. Earl began working for David Haugo Farms and trucking in the winter months.

Earl loved snowmobiling, sometimes riding 200 miles a day up by Lake of the Woods. He enjoyed being in the woods, cutting firewood and camping with his family in the summer. Earl loved having his grandchildren and great grandchildren around. He would often take them for rides on the snowmobile or 4-wheeler. Earl was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Earl Jr.; and a granddaughter, Heather. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cheryl, of Waubun; son, Mark Kjos of Waubun; daughter, Lori (Willie Wallace) Amundsen of Ada; four grandchildren: Michael Litzau, Robert Parker, Jenifer (Tom) Maher and Ashley (Brandon) Wilson; three great grandchildren: Delilah, Eden and Corinth; brother, Marvin (Lois) Kjos of Cambridge, MN; three sisters: Shirley Rea of Minneapolis, Linda (Wayne) Pudwill of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Marilyn Day of Sonora, CA; two brothers-in-law, Allen Pederson of Ogema, MN, and Myron (JoAnn) Pederson of Grafton, WV; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at Lake Grove Lutheran Church in Waubun. Visitation will be held Friday, March 13th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. at Anderson Family Funeral Home, Mahnomen. Burial will be held at Lake Grove Cemetery, Waubun.
