Celebrate Spring at the Chickasaw Cultural Center

Three Sisters Celebration Set March 9-22

SULPHUR - Spring is in the air at the Chickasaw Cultural Center’s annual Three Sisters Celebration, set Monday, March 9 to Sunday, March 22.

The Three Sisters festival features many outdoor activities and games which celebrate and embrace the rebirth and rejuvenation of spring, with an emphasis on the cultural connection to horticulture.

An ancient method of gardening, “Three Sisters” (corn, beans and squash) uses an intercropping system to grow the crops simultaneously.

Horticulture-related activities, including preparing a garden, planting tips, cultivating crops, a native plant tour and food tasting will be offered.

Participants may take part in a variety of games, including stickball, squirrel stick throwing, chunky, language games and marbles.

Other activities include archery, make and take art, stomp dance demonstrations, storytelling and flute making. A family-friendly movie will be screened daily.

The event is free and open to the public.

The Chickasaw Cultural Center, located at 867 Cooper Memorial Drive is open Monday-Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday noon - 5 p.m.
