Mary Mae Sumner, 65, of Red Lake, MN died Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 9, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Red Lake with Fr. Jerry Rogers officiating. A wake will begin 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 7, 2015 at the Little Rock Community Center. Interment will be in the spring in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Red Lake.

Mary Mae Redeagle was born March 9, 1949 in Red Lake to John and Mary (Spears) Redeagle. On January 10, 1969 she married Richard Sumner in Minneapolis, MN. She attended BSU majoring in criminal justice. Mary was a Radio Operator/Guard for the Red Lake Police Department, School Board Member of Red Lake School District #38, Supervisor for the Outpatient Program, Chemical Dependency, Director of the Elderly Nutrition Program, Data Coordinator for Alcohol Rehab and Senior Planner for the Minnesota Department of Human Services, St. Paul. She loved going to the casino and was a good story teller. Mary was always there to help her relatives with their children and people often looked to her for advice. She made family come first and foremost.

She is survived by her children, Simone (Matthew) Sumner, Melanie Sumner, Bryan Sumner, Preston Sumner, Richard Sumner Jr., Greg Sumner and Rod Spears Sr.; significant other, Joe Sumner; foster children, Thelma (Bill) May, Ger Beaulieu, Douglas (Lori) Beaulieu, Derek Beaulieu and Billie (Jim) Redeagle; special grandchildren, Mistie Sumner, Richard (Shaye) Sumner III, she was extremely proud of her grandson, Tim (Rhiannon) Sumner, as County Commissioner, special great-grandchildren, DeAnthony Gonzalez, Mataeya Sumner and Simone McKayleigh Ann Sumner, Carmine Sumner; 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Burt (Doyla) Redeagle; 2 sisters, Manette (Marquist) Redeagle, Cecelia Redeagle of Mpls. and sister-in-law, Betty Beaulieu.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Sumner Sr.; brother, Roman and David; sisters, Josephine, Irene and Jean; children, Lester and Brian; foster children, Brian Redeagle and Carter Redeagle; great-granddaughter, MariJane Natewa and daughter-in-law, Michelle Spears.
