Gertrude Marie RedEagle, of the Kingfisher Clan, 83, "ZHANWAN-GINEW" which means "Golden Eagle", of Redby, MN began her spiritual journey on March 1, 2015 from the Red Lake Hospital in Red Lake, Minnesota.

Gertie was born in Red Lake, Minnesota on July 27, 1931 daughter of Francis and Julia Oakgrove. She grew up in Red Lake where she met and married Sam RedEagle. They spent 53 years together until his passing in 2010. Her passion was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was well known for her baking and cooking, especially her frybread and baked goods. She enjoyed going to powwows, playing bingo, casino trips, watching movies, sewing, beading as well as visiting with family and friends. She was a kind hearted, caring and well respected lady within our community.

Gertie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Sam RedEagle, daughter Rose Gibbs, sons; Francis Oakgrove, Howard Kitto and Samual Kitto, grandchildren; Alvin "Lil John" Johnson II, Mickie Lee Johnson, Erica Hall and Elliot Tourville and brothers; Bill, Harlen, Arlen, John, Collins, Jo Marv and Larry Oakgrove.

She is survived by sons; Alvin Johnson, Tom Johnson, Joe (Stacy), Jim, Bob (Sam) and Elden RedEagle, daughters; Sandy, Evelyn and Julie RedEagle, Betty Hall, Linda Paciluyko, sister Agnes Smith, brothers; Ted and Pete Oakgrove. She was blessed with 44 grandchildren, 64 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren.

Traditional services for Gertie will began at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 and will continue until burial services on Thursday, March 5, 2015, all being held at the Redby Community Center in Redby. Allen Hardy will be her Spiritual Leader. Pallbearers for Gertie will be Devin Clark, Darv Goodleft, Jr., Sam Gibbs, Mikey Roberts, Joe RedEagle, Jr., Jim RedEagle, Jr., Keith RedEagle and Mike Johnson. Alternate pallbearers are Kevin Gibbs and Elden RedEagle, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be her children and grandchildren. Interment will be in the RedEagle Family Burial Grounds at Neptune, Minnesota follow her service on Thursday.
