Sophomore Grace White hits 1000th point in Red Lake's win over Red Lake County Central 62-17 - P11

RED LAKE, MN - Red Lake High School Sophomore Grace White had 971 career points before the start of their make-up game with the Red Lake County Central Mustangs on Monday, January 26, 2015. She needed just 29 points to reach 1000 points, a feat only reached once in Red Lake girls basketball history by Latoya Schoenborn.

The Lady Warriors started off quick, their usual pace, and it wasn't until after baskets by Samantha Roy, Tatianna McClain, Seleasha Roy and Kennedy Barrett and Red Lake was leading 9-0, that White hit her first bucket.

After that it was the Grace White Show as she racked up 28 points by the time the first half ended. RLCC didn't score until it was 31-0, as Red Lake's full-court press caused turnover after turnover. Then they would only score 3 more points, as Red Lake led 49-5 at the half.

Everyone in the House knew she was going to do it, and once the second half started and she was fouled on a drive, she sank the first of two free throws to reach the 1000 point mark.

At that point the game stopped and she was honored for her feat. The sophomore had accomplished something very historic for RLHS.

White started playing on the varsity squad when she was just an eighth grader and has matured into what some describe as a "beast" underneath who is at times, quick and unstoppable and can hit from just about anywhere--including 3-point range. With over 2 years left at RLHS, it wouldn't surprise many that she could top the 2000 point mark.

Red Lake pulled their starters shortly after that and went on to win 62-17.

Grace White led all scorers with 29, Seleasha Roy added 10, Tatianna McClain and Samantha Roy each hit for 8, Kennedy Barrett had 5, and Danielle Seki 2.

Taylor Bushelle had 5 for the Mustangs.

The Lady Warriors are now 15-1 on the season and will travel to Walker-Hackensack-Akley on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, Fond du Lac on January 30th and Carlton on January 31st.

In Carlton, the girls will tip off at 12 noon, with the boys to follow at 2 PM.
