AmeriCorps Program is Back!

AmeriCorps Program is Back! AmeriCorps Program started in August 2014 and volunteers provide service in Head Start. Members were selected and began service in October 2014. Below is a introduction of the members. As of to date the members provided 6,300 hours of volunteering in 10 classrooms. 2 Classrooms at Ponemah Head Start and 8 Classrooms at Red Lake Head Start.

AMERICORPS MEMBER PROFILES:

Emily Downwind: Emily began volunteering at the Red Lake Head Start in the Ojibwe Immersion Classroom. Emily loves working with children and her future plans are to go to college to study Early Childhood Education. Early Childhood plays an important roll in shaping the way a child learns throughout his/her lifetime. Hopefully someday I will have the opportunity to teach other AmeriCorps members' children. My experience will be extremely valuable when I began my career as a Teacher at Red Lake Head Start.

Karli Cobenais: Karli began volunteering at the Red Lake Head Start in the Bullhead Classroom. Karli chose to volunteer with the AmeriCorps Program because she likes working with children. When Karli read the job announcement for AmeriCorps and seen the members will volunteer at the Head Start Program she became interested in applying. Karli wanted to be part of AmeriCorps because it seemed like it would be a lot of fun working with the children and it would also be a positive learning experience.

Joshua DesJarlait: Joshua began volunteering at Red Lake Head Start in the Kingfisher room but is also a "floater". A floater goes to whichever classroom needs extra help. Joshua joined AmeriCorps after learning about the education award that is available. Joshua enjoys working with the children at the Head Start and being a positive role model.

Robin Jones: Robin joined AmeriCorps because she enjoys working with the children and staff. Robin is volunteering at the Ponemah Head Start in the Maang Classroom.

Avery Kingbird:Avery joined AmeriCorps because he thinks it will be fun to help the students learn. Avery will be a good role-model for the students and wanted to try something different. Avery is volunteering at the Red Lake Head Start in the Eagle Room.

Sadie Kingbird: Sadie began volunteering at the Red Lake Head start in Ojibwe immersion classroom. Sadie choose to volunteer in AmeriCorps because she wanted the experience with "teaching" children. Sadie said this will help with her education goals of becoming a teacher. Sadie was a mentor for Native Youth Transportation Summer Program which was a great experience. Sadie is excited about being a AmeriCorps member and also earning the scholarship. Sadie will attend B.S.U. when she completes her service.

Aleicia Lussier: Joined AmeriCorps and volunteers in the Waabooz room. Aleicia applied at AmeriCorps because her grandmother suggested she apply. After being selected as a member she enjoys working with the children and believes she makes a impact in the students' lives. Learning about AmeriCorps is helping Aleicia pick the correct career path. Aleicia loves spending time with the students and a year of volunteering in AmeriCorps to help them learn and develop is a dream come true!

Trevor Lussier: Trevor is a AmeriCorps Alumni. Trevor enjoys working with the students at the Red Lake Head Start in the Kingfisher Room. Trevor likes learning new things and meeting new people. The students in the Kingfisher room keeps Trevor busy in the classroom.

Kristyn Juarez: Kristyn joined AmeriCorps to volunteer at the Red Lake Head Start in the Bear Room. Kristyn is a positive roll model for children in our community. Kristyn wants to teach youth to work hard and the possibilities are endless. Kristyn enjoys working with kids and thought that volunteering would be interesting. The students are out-spoken, bright and Kristyn enjoys teaching them new things. Kristyn listens to the students and enjoys hearing how they view the world around them!

Bambi King: Bambi joined AmeriCorps and volunteers in the Wolf Room. Bambi enjoys working with the students and being a mentor. It is also an insight to what Bambi wants to do her future. Bambi wants to further her education and become a teacher at the Red Lake Head Start. Bambi believes she has what it takes to be a teacher and mentor here at the Red Lake Head Start.

Robert Parker Jr.: Robert joined AmeriCorps to volunteer in the Marten Classroom. Robert enjoys working with the students and helps teach the students about "bullying". Robert is a good role model for the students and enjoys being a "teacher". Robert is a positive role model for the community!

Jordan Kingbird: Jordan joined AmeriCorps and volunteers in the Waabooz Classroom. Jordan enjoys teaching the students and learning new things. Working with the Head Start also gives Jordan different ways to teach his own daughter.

Daniel Perkins Jr: Daniel joined AmeriCorps and volunteers at Ponemah Head Start in the Miigiizii classroom. Daniel loves working with the students! Teaching is a lot of fun. I also joined AmeriCorps for the education award.
