Joan Lee Strong, 81, of Red Lake, MN, died Thursday, January 22, 2015 at her home in Red Lake.

Funeral Services will be 3:00 pm Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Little Rock Community Center in Red Lake, MN with Father Jerry Rogers officiating. A wake will held from 12 Noon- 8:00pm, Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Little Rock Community Center with a feast held at 5:00pm. Interment will be at 11:35 am, Monday, January 26, 2015 the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN with Spiritual Leader Art Owen officiating. Arrangements are with the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.

She was born on January 14, 1934, in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Harry Slater and Meredith (Applebee) Fundingsland. She was raised in Minneapolis by her mother Meredith and Elwood Mayer. Red Lake became her home, especially in her heart, she never wanted to leave. She served on board of the Little Rock Community for 20 years. Many knew Joan as the old white lady, but what they didn't know was that she was Native. The family wants to thank the community for their support, Miigwitch!!

She was preceded in death by her parents, her 3 husbands, children Robert Lee Turpin Jr., Kathleen Lieberman, and Colleen Tamminen.
