Donald Joseph Sumner, Sr., 53, of Red Lake, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2015 at the Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND. He was born May 23, 1961 in Red Lake, the son of John Franklin Sumner, Sr. and Donna Mae (Hanson) Sumner.

Donald enjoyed working as a logger for his own independent business, "Sumner Logging". He also enjoyed hunting, trapping, gambling, fishing and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Donald married Margaret Roberts on June 1, 1984 in red Lake. They renewed their vows again in 2001 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Lake.

Donald is survived by his wife Margaret (Roberts) Sumner, sons; Donald Sumner, Jr., Brian Sumner, and a grandson he raised as his own son, Cody James Roberts, daughter; Martina Marie Roberts, brothers; Darwin Sumner and John Sumner, Jr., sisters; Lynette Sumner-Hill, Janet Sumner and Sharon Sumner, parents; John and Donna Sumner, grandchildren; Alyssa, Kendall, Ken'Drell, Bryton, Breia, and one great granddaughter Khloe all of whom were his pride and joy, "papa's babies".

A wake service for Donald will begin at 11:00 a.m., Monday January 26, 2015 at the New Little Rock Community Center in Red Lake. It will continue there until moving to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Lake at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 28. Father Jerry Rogers will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Donald Sumner, Jr., Brian Sumner, Cody Roberts, Christopher Sumner, Clarence Drouillard, Robert Neadeau, Jr., and Robert May. Alternate pallbearer will be William Morrison. Honorary pallbearers will be Harlow Spears, Donald Graves, Sr., Darwin Sumner, Brad Blue, Harry Hanson, Jr., Terrance Neadeau, Sr., Harold Bruns, Sr., and Ervin Lussier. Interment will be held in the Sumner Family Burial Grounds by his home.
