OSHKIIMAAJITAHDAH

Position Summary:

The Cultural Coordinator will be responsible to create and develop cultural activities for the Oshkiimaajitahdah program. Reports directly to the Executive Director of Oshkiimaajitahdah, full-time position with benefits, salary; DOQ.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties:

• Develops and implements educational programs; advises Oshkiimaajitahdah clients and assists in the development of programs to create community and enhance their awareness for Ojibwe culture.

• Serves as an advisor to various organizations; provides training to student organizations on the process of space reservations, financial accounting, and posting procedures; chaperones late night student activities; services as a financial coordinator to student organizational accounts.

• Partner with organizations on programmatic cultural activities and events that work closely with common goals for our clientele.

• Assists with the coordination of diversity awareness, training, and educational programs in conjunction with other organizations and community partners that support client accomplishments.

• Collaborates with other partners/programs in developing workshops events that enrich our client's knowledge on the Ojibwe culture.

• Promotes dialogue and aids in the interaction among groups that represent diversity and facilitate, co-teaches, and/or participates in the delivery of multicultural educational experiences, i.e. fishing – hunting – gardening programs.

• Collaborate with case managers on documenting activities.

• Work closely with Oshkiimaajitahdah case managers & clients to set goals, steps, tasks and time lines to develop and execute a written plan/contract between the Oshkiimaajitahdah program and participants. The goal is to achieve permanent, full time employment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

• Familiarity with diverse cultures (Ojibwe & Dakota) and diversity related program design

• Planning and organizational skills

• Interpersonal/human relations skills

• Event management skills

• Sensitivity to the needs of a diverse population, including minority and international clientele

• Ability to initiate and maintain professional relationships with diverse organizations

• Provide job placement counseling to Oshkiimaajitahdah participants ensuring access to employment opportunities, job development, financial assistance, training and other social programs that ensure participants are placed on the most direct path to unsubsidized employment.

• Work cooperatively with all agencies in the identification, orientation and referral process of public assistance recipients, especially those identified as mandatory for clients to continue to receive assistance.

• Maintain files and complete all paperwork to insure compliance with state and federal requirements and to insure due process. Also required to maintain appropriate information releases by the Data Privacy Act.

• Serve as professional representative of Oshkiimaajitahdah and Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians.

• All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED and/or college equivalent.

• Computer skills

• Exceptional oral communication including writing ability;

• High degree of skill in motivational techniques, problem solving and group work abilities;

• Ability to speak to large groups;

• Must have a valid Minnesota Driver's license and auto insurance

• Employment is contingent upon passing a pre-employment drug test and background check.

• Abide by the New Beginnings Zero Tolerance Policy.
