Wathene ("Patricia""Bunny")Sitting Mahto Peebles passed away from a brief illness on December 18, 2014 in Sioux City, IA. She is survived by four children: Peter, Debra, Susan and James, as well as her older brother Theodore Dewitt Mahto, and half-sister and brothers: Sharon, Dewitt and Cliff. She was proceeded in passing by her parents: Theodore Dewitt Mahto Sr., her mother, Mary Sitting Mahto and sister Martha, and brother Clifford (Sugar)Mahto.

Patricia, as she preferred to be called, was born April 5, 1930 in Cass Lake, MN where her parents ran the local trading post. She was an enrolled member of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians. After her mother passed away at an early age, she attended Pipestone Indian School in Pipestone, MN, and graduated from Haskell Institute in the Business Program in 1951. After her children left home, Patricia attended the University of Kansas attaining her Master's Degree in Fine Art. She married James Peebles in 1952 in Minneapolis, MN.

She will be remembered by family and friends as a creative spirit who was always interested in chatting on spirituality and philosophy. She was an avid reader and music lover. Her life-long dream was of becoming a stand-up comedian and at the time of her death was working on a joke book when she passed away. She had been living in Sioux City, IA for the previous 8 years. She will be sadly missed for her fun loving nature and her ability to tell a good story. She has eight grandchildren (many she helped raise), and two great grandchildren. Love you Mom.
