Position Summary:

The primary purpose of this position as Construction Inspector/Surveyor is responsible for ensuring daily contract compliance to project plans and specifications on constructions projects or on more complex projects as part of an inspection team; for documentation to support payment and project acceptance. Reports to the Self Governance Engineering Supervisor, full-time position with benefits, salary; DOQ.

Essential Functions:

• Read and understand contract documents prior to start of project work.

• Ensure construction work is performed in accordance with the contract documents.

• Monitor traffic control for public convenience and safety and for safety of the personnel.

• Decisions regarding public convenience will be made based on how they benefit the public and not for Contractor convenience.

• Ensure that all required tests are performed and documented with results supplied in a timely manner to the Project Manager and Contractor.

• Identify procedures in the work and/or materials that are inconsistent with the contract documents. Notify Contractor for corrective action and follows-up until inconsistency is resolved.

• Act a member of a survey crew to set up and operate electronic survey equipment to collect data for development projects, running control networks, level circuits, and information for detail mapping and utility locations.

• Assists with construction work utilizing contract plans and drawings to set references and controls on construction projects for grade, slope stakes, curb lines, culverts, guardrail, manholes, bridges, traffic signals, luminaries, highway signing, and other related items for construction control and measurement.

• Enter, transfer, and edit survey data in computers from electronic survey equipment.

• Prepares minor construction details and drawings, or by other appropriate methods.

• Assists in the preparation of location surveys, finished grades, cross sections, quantity calculations, cost estimates, and other project documentation

• Work with survey crew and designers to gather and organize field data.

• Review project plans and specifications prior to bid.

• Identify potential problems and work with PM, APM, and designers to make necessary revisions.

• Act as a mentor for lower level inspectors on crew.

• Regular attendance and participation in safety meetings and promote a safe work environment.

• Establish and maintain professional and collaborative working relationships with all contacts.

• Other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

• An Associate's degree in Engineering Technology from a recognized community college or technical school of engineering; AND

• Four years of experience directly related to highway construction inspection and/or surveying.

• Must have valid Minnesota driver's license and proof of insurance.

• Employment contingent upon successfully passing Pre-Employment Drug/Alcohol Test and Background Check.
