Edward Melvin Perkins, Jr. (Dewey) was born on January 20, 1956 in Red Lake, MN to Edward M. and Virginia G. (Lussier) Perkins. Dewey attended Coon Rapids Senior High and in his senior years, he joined the Peace Corps and traveled to Montana. He loved to travel and loved the city of Minneapolis. He spent many years in the city and also traveled to Texas and Arkansas. In the cities, he loved to walk around and met many people. He moved to Red Lake in 1982, where he continued to walk and was often seen either walking to Bemidji or back home on Highway 89. Once you met Dewey, you knew him because he was one of those people. Dewey listened to the radio and would pride himself on getting radio stations from places far away. He also read and retained interesting facts that he would offer up whenever he had a chance. He also had an infectious laugh. His love for his cats and any cats was a lifelong love.

Dewey is survived by his Mother, his brothers, Darrell and Charlie and sister Lea, all of Red Lake and many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his Father, sister, Luana Marie, his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Nancy (Dudley) Lussier and paternal grandparents, Louise (Greeley) LaJeunesse and William Perkins, as well as a special great aunt and uncle, Helen and Charlie Holinday.
