Chickasaws, state cut ribbon on I-35 ramps

THACKERVILLE, Okla. – Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby and the state of Oklahoma’s top executives in the department of transportation officially cut the ribbon Tuesday opening Exit 3 ramps designed to smooth traffic flowing into and out of the area around WinStar World Casino.

Gov. Anoatubby was joined by Oklahoma Secretary of Transportation Gary Ridley, Oklahoma Department of Transportation Director Mike Patterson and other officials to open a new entrance and exit ramp to Interstate 35.

Gov. Anoatubby said that all area residents will benefit from safer more convenient access to area homes and businesses.

“These additional ramps will alleviate traffic congestion and allow easier access to all WinStar properties,” Gov. Anoatubby said, adding "Easier access to the area should lead to more jobs and additional economic activity in the region. Tribal businesses and economic development enable us to meet our mission to enhance the overall quality of life of the Chickasaw people by providing employment opportunities and funding for our many programs and services.

The Chickasaw Nation partnered with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation to construct the new access ramps.

“On behalf of the Chickasaw Nation, I would like to thank ODOT for all of its hard work and expertise making this project possible. It is fantastic to see the finished product,” said Gov. Anoatubby.

Oklahoma Secretary of Transportation Gary Ridley said that collaboration with the Chickasaw Nation has led to numerous improvements to roads in Oklahoma.

"Certainly this would have never come about without the help of the Chickasaw Nation," said Sec. Ridley.

Officials said traffic studies show about 7,200 vehicles per day will use the new ramps.
