Leo L. Bellanger Murray, age 75, of Waubun, MN, died on Monday, October 6, 2014, at Essentia Health Oak Crossing, Detroit Lakes, MN.

Leo was born December 1, 1938, in White Earth, MN, the oldest son of Mary Bellanger. He was raised in Elbow Lake Village and attended school in Waubun. Following high school, Leo entered the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. Upon his honorable discharge, Leo lived in the Minneapolis, MN, and worked various jobs including being a golf caddy in Edina and a cab driver.

In 1963, Leo was united in marriage to Myra. They lived in the various places such as the Twin Cities, International Falls, MN, and Bemidji, MN, while Leo was driving truck over the road. He returned to Elbow Lake Village to make his home and retired in the late 90's. Following a cancer diagnosis, Leo's declining health forced him to move into Oak Crossing in February of 2014.

The gift to gab was a talent of Leo's. He was quite the character visiting and joking with everyone. He was known by many people near and far. He enjoyed fishing, playing bingo at Pappy's Café in Waubun and attending pow-wows. Leo spent his spare time picking up aluminum cans and building projects like the three garages he has. He was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church and very active with Wisdom Steps.

Leo is survived by three sisters: Grace LaMae Hagen, St. Louis Park, MN, Judy Toppings, White Earth, and Vera Murray, Minneapolis, MN; one brother, Daniel (Judy) Murray, Waubun, MN; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra; wife, Myra; mother, Mary Murray and sister, Donna Jones. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 10, 2014, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Naytahwaush, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service.

Interment will be held at St. Anne's Cemetery, Naytahwaush.
