Bemidji State, NTC named "Military Friendly" for sixth consecutive year

Oct. 1, 2014 — For the sixth consecutive year, Victory Media has listed Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College among the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the nation doing the most to embrace America’s military veterans as students.

The list was compiled through exhaustive research during which Victory Media researched and surveyed more than 10,000 Department of Veterans Affairs-approved schools nationwide. Methodology, criteria and weighting for the list were developed with the assistance of an academic advisory board consisting of educators and administrators and through a survey of more than 4,000 military veterans.

“It is an incredible honor that Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College have been named a Military Friendly School by G.I. Jobs for the sixth consecutive year,” said Dr. James Parker, vice president for student development and enrollment at Bemidji State, said. “Our faculty, staff and students are extremely proud of the dedicated military personnel when they walk across the stage at graduation. We strive to thank the soldiers and their families for their commitment to our freedom.”

Criteria for making the Military Friendly Schools list included efforts to recruit and retain military and veteran students, results in recruiting military and veteran students and academic accreditations.

Victory Media’s 2015 Military Friendly Schools list includes approximately 1,600 schools. Bemidji State was one of five universities in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system to make the list, while Northwest Technical College was joined by 14 other system two-year community and technical colleges. In total, 19 members of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system were recognized on the list.

A full story and detailed list of Military Friendly Schools will be highlighted in the annual “G.I Jobs Guide to Military Friendly Schools” and on a poster, both of which will be distributed to hundreds of thousands of active and former military personnel in October. A full list of military-friendly schools is available at militaryfriendly.com.
