Thomas Lee Oakgrove, Makde Wegaabo, which means "Black Standing Man", 40, of Redby, passed away at the Sanford Hospital in Bemidji on Saturday, September 27, 2014. Tom was born on October 14, 1973 in Minneapolis, MN the son of Collins and Minnie (Murray) Oakgrove.

Tom really enjoyed being with his nieces and nephews especially his special great niece Minnie. He liked to attend pow-wows and hearing the drum groups. Tom liked to go to Red Lake and spend time at the casino playing Keno. He also found time spent visiting friends and family was very important.

Those he joins include his parents; Collins and Minnie, sister; Barbara Kaiser, and love of his life and fiancé Jillene "Tubby" White.

Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory include his brothers; Tim Oakgrove of Redby, Robert Helps, Harry Helps and Donnie Helps all of Fergus Falls, sisters; Julia Oakgrove of Redby, Gloria Gilbert of Minneapolis and Maryanna Harstad of Minneapolis, uncles; Pete of Red Lake and Teddy of Minneapolis, aunts; Agnes Smith of Redby and Gertrude Redeagle of Red Lake, nieces; Katrina, Destiny, Kristine, Angela and Iana Lynn, nephews; Tim, Jr., Charles and De'Andre, great nieces; Minnie, Da'Laycia, and Ka'Lynn and one great nephew; Gini Wiinz.

A wake service for Tom will begin at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 1, 2014 and will continue until the 2:00 p.m., service on Friday, October 3, all at the Redby Community Center in Redby. Father George Ross will officiate. Helping to lay Tom to rest are Tim Oakgrove, Phil Lussier, Charles Oakgrove, Fabian Cloud, De'Andre Oakgrove, Bob Redeagle, Scott Uppergard and Robin Lussier. His honorary pallbearers are the Black Jack Department and Co-Workers of the 7 Clans Casino in Thief River, Becky Smith, Christin May, San Greene, Bobo Fairbanks, all his nieces, nephews and cousins. Interment will be held in the Oakgrove family burial grounds in Redby following the service.
