George James Downwind, 52, of Red Lake, MN, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, September 24, 2014. He was born on November 13, 1961 in Red Lake, the son of Francis and Dorothy (Blakely) Downwind.

George was an avid logger who enjoyed being in nature. He enjoyed going to the casino and gambling, bead work, being with his family and spending time with his grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by his parents; Francis and Dorothy, brother; Edward David Downwind, grandparents; Rose and Xavier Downwind, many aunties and uncles.

He is survived by his daughter; Devone Downwind of Duluth, sister; Carolyn (Dwight) Sayers of Red Lake, brothers; Herman (Georgia) Downwind of Red Lake, and Francis L. Downwind of Redby, three grandchildren, many adopted grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

A wake service for George will begin at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 27, 2014 at the Redby Center in Redby and will continue until the 1:00 p.m., service on Monday, September 29, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Lake with Father Jerry Rogers officiating.
