EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To implement the mission of the Red Lake Homeless Shelter, demonstrating a high level of quality, effectiveness and caring in programs, operations and administration. The Executive Director is supervised by the Board of Directors.

HOMELESS SHELTER ADMINISTRATION

• Supervise the work of the Program Manager and Case Managers, ensuring that programs and operations are carried out according to policies and procedures.

• Consult with the Program Manager as needed to amend procedures, referring any changes in overall policy to the Board of Directors for approval.

• Collaborate with the Program Manager and Personnel Committee on the recruiting and interviewing of all staff, making hiring recommendations to the Board of Directors.

• Work with Program Manager to conduct regular and annual staff evaluations, referring all recommendations for wage increases, promotions and dismissals to the Board of Directors.

• Supervise accounting functions with Red Lake Band as fiscal agent: including paying wages, payroll taxes and expenses, requesting payment from funders, depositing and allocating income.

• Submit reports to all grants and funding sources as required, including requests for reimbursement.

• Submit and seek public and private grants, donations and fundraising activities.

• Participate in regional, federal, state and tribal groups concerned with homelessness, supportive housing programs.

• Create annual budget and submit to Board for approval, monitor monthly spending and budget limits.

• Ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

• Develop and implement special projects as approved by the board such as Supportive Housing for people with disabilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's Degree in human services-related field, or equivalent human services work experience.

• Experience in Nonprofit administration.

• Professional experience providing human services to Native Americans.

• Professional experience with homeless people.

• Thorough knowledge of the Red Lake Reservation community and surrounding communities.

• Skilled in verbal and written communication.

• Ability to be self-directed and to effectively supervise others.

• Ability to effectively create and monitor budgets, income and expenses.

• Ability to write grants.

• Skilled in planning and development.
