Roy James Roberts, 68, 'Noodin Geezhik' which means 'The Wind of the Sky' of Minneapolis began his spiritual journey on September 7, 2014 in Fridley, MN. Roy was born the son of Phyllis Roberts on January 24, 1946 in Red Lake, MN.

Roy was a well versed man, he was a 4th degree Midewiwin, a Golden Gloves Champion and a Vietnam Veteran. Some of his jobs included logging, a bakery worker and a window washer. Roy received his Masters degree in Indian Education and Human Services where after he became a youth and family counselor. He was also a Ojibwe Language Instructor. His life passions were spending time with this family and friends, participating in ceremonies, sugaring, quarrying for pipestone, dining out and telling stories. Roy loved his basketball and football. Roy's giving heart will be missed by many.

The family that Roy joins are his mother, Phyllis Jourdain, brothers; David Bellanger and Dwight Bellanger, Sr., his grandparents Jenny and Charles Roberts and numerous aunts and uncles.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his daughters; Danielle Roberts and Winona Roberts Spaulding, son; Christopher Thunder, 8 grandchildren and his siblings; Arthur, Dan, Lorraine (Dennis), Tiny (Lovey) and Melvin.

A wake service for Roy will begin on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. and continue until the start of his traditional services on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., all being held at the Red Lake Community Center in Red Lake, MN. Billy Blackwell will be the spiritual leader. Roy's pallbearers will be Daniel Bellanger, Dwight Bellanger, Jr., Joe 'Tiny' Bellanger, Dennis Eckman, Kenny Graves, Melvin Jourdain, David Jourdain and Ryan Jourdain. His honorary pallbearers are the special people in his life, Jan, Janet, Sam, Alicia and all his nieces and nephews. Interment will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at Red Lake immediately following the service.
