Red Lake woman pleads not guilty to criminal vehicular operation

BEMIDJI -- A Red Lake woman plead not guilty in Beltrami County Court on Wednesday to criminal vehicular operation. She is facing criminal charges after she crashed her vehicle causing injuries to a passenger.

Melvina Rose May, 49, rolled her Ford F150 in the early morning June 1 on Highway 89 south of Scribner Road NW. Court documents stated May admitted to having been drinking. A preliminary blood test showed an alcohol concentration of 0.184; the legal limit is 0.08.

A passenger in her vehicle was put on a stretcher and into an ambulance with complaints of back and head injuries, according to the court document.

May is charged with criminal vehicular homicide or operation-bodily harm, which carries a maximum penalty of a year in jail and a $3,000 fine. She is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on Sept. 30.
