Border Patrol agents rescue 2 adults and 2 children on Lower Red Lake

Four people, including two children, were rescued during a night-time search Wednesday on Lower Red Lake in northern Minnesota.

Using night vision goggles and an OAM AS350 helicopter, agents from U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Air and Marine responded to a call from the Red Lake (Minn.) Police Department about 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Two agents, assigned to the North Dakota Air Branch, assisted with a “search and rescue mission of a vessel in distress that was carrying four individuals,” according to a news release.

“Upon arriving on scene the crew searched the Red Lake area utilizing their night vision goggles and a forward looking infrared (FLIR) system.”

About 3:30 a.m., agents found the distressed vessel and guided rescue personnel to it on Lower Red Lake.

“This case is a testament to how well we work with our fellow law enforcement partners when lives are at risk,” said Greg Abner, Director of Air Operations, North Dakota Air Branch. “I am just glad we were able to respond so quickly and assist in saving the lives of four people today.”

The names of the people rescued were not released. The news release said two adults and two children were found in stable condition.
