The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at the Sacred Heart Chapel, Saint Benedict's Monastery, St. Joseph, for Sister

Patricia Wallis, age 83, who died on July 31, 2014, at Saint Scholastica Convent, St. Cloud, Minn. Burial will be in the monastery cemetery. Friends may call at Saint Scholastica Convent on Tuesday, August 5, from 1-6 p.m. or for a Vigil Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at Saint Benedict's Monastery. Visitation continues at 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral.

Born October 12, 1930, to Joseph and Mary Elizabeth (Graham) Wallis in Minneapolis, Minn., S. Patricia (Marilyn) attended St. Anne's Grade School in Minneapolis and Saint Benedict's High School in St. Joseph. She entered Saint Benedict's Monastery on October 4, 1948. On reception into the novitiate on June 15, 1949, she was given the name Patricia. She made first monastic profession on July 11, 1950, and perpetual monastic profession on July 11, 1953.

A graduate of the College of Saint Benedict, St. Joseph, with a B.A. degree in elementary education and minors in philosophy and English, S. Patricia also earned M.S. and Ed. S. degrees in elementary education administration (the latter with special concentration in Indian Studies) from St. Cloud State University. She attended classes at Bemidji State University, the University of Nevada at Reno, Nev., and participated in the Right to Read program and Laubach tutoring through the State of Minnesota.

S. Patricia's ministries took her to several locations in Minnesota. Between 1951 and 2005 she ministered four different times at St. Mary's Mission, Red Lake, serving as teacher, principal, organist or in adult religious education. She also served as a teacher at St. Anthony's and St. Mary's School in St. Cloud, and as teacher and principal in Melrose, Sobieski, Luxemburg and St. Augusta, and Incarnation School in Minneapolis; she was also director of religious education for Incarnation parish. In addition, S. Patricia was media director for the Diocese of St. Cloud at the Bureau of Education for six years, and taught elementary language arts in the College of Saint Benedict extension program in Nassau, Bahamas, for one summer. She spent two years at Saint Scholastica Convent teaching computer skills and as a receptionist. From 2005 – 2009 S. Patricia lived at Saint Benedict's Monastery, where she worked in the archives and as hostess in the Haehn Museum. In 2009 she retired to Saint Scholastica Convent where she undertook a special ministry of prayer for the people of the Red Lake and White Earth Reservations.

S. Patricia is survived by the Sisters of her Benedictine community and one sister, Grace Mary (Bob) Sorenson of Stanchsield, Minn., as well as nieces and a nephew.
