Red Lake Police arrest two in connection with 11 burglaries

RED LAKE -- Two people suspected of committing multiple burglaries in six different townships have been taken into custody.

Brandon George Howard, 34, of Redby and Holly Beth Johnson, 30, of Redwood Falls were arrested Sunday by Red Lake Tribal Police. Howard and Johnson are suspected in burglaries which occurred during the past month that were all similar in nature, according to a press release from the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office.

Since July 9, 11 burglaries have occurred at seasonal cabins and unoccupied residences in Roosevelt, Benville, Shooks, Spruce, Minnie and Bemidji Townships.

Howard and Johnson were captured by Red Lake Tribal Police on the Red Lake Indian Reservation in a vehicle that had been stolen during a burglary in Roosevelt Township. Howard and Johnson have been transported to Koochiching County Jail in International Falls.

Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office and Koochiching County Sheriff’s Office were working with Red Lake Tribal Police on the burglary investigation. A follow-up investigation led to the recovery of many items stolen in the burglaries.

Deputies have been checking the areas burglarized for additional undiscovered burglaries. Once all the victims of the Beltrami County burglaries have been contacted, investigators will present cases to the Beltrami County Attorney’s Office for review of additional charges, the release said.

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office requests anyone with property in the northern part of the county to check for break-ins and report them immediately. The sheriff’s office can be reached at (218) 333-9111.
