Grand Opening held at new Little Rock Center - P22

On Tuesday, July 15, 2014, the Little Rock Community held its Grand Opening for its new Community Center, located just south of their older one.

Although there is still some construction taking place, a ribbon cutting ceremony was conducted and about 200 people came out to take part in the ceremony.

Members of the Red Lake Tribal Council presented remarks and included Little Rock Representatives Richard Barrett and Billy Green, along with Red Lake Tribal Chairman Darrell Seki Sr.

Groundbreaking ceremonies for the Little Rock Center were held exactly one year ago on Monday, July 15, 2013. It was originally scheduled to be completed in January 2014,

All four districts on the Red Lake Reservation were scheduled to receive new Community Centers. Ponemah's Community Center was the first to be completed, with Redby's new Center still being planned and could have groundbreaking sometime this year. Red Lake is still in the planning stages for their new facility.

The Little Rock project was a collaboration of many people, including the Little Rock Community members, the Little Rock Representatives, the Red Lake Economic Development Program and the Shakopee Mdewankanton Sioux Community who aided in financing the project.

According to Representative Barrett he had stated the old center will remain stanging and would be used for overflow or double bookings, and other uses to be determined. It could also be used for kids recreation, community meetings and wakes.
