Red Lake Rosie's Rescue Saves Hundreds of Dogs and Cats

You may have heard of Red Lake Rosie's Rescue (RLRR) but did you know that in 2013 RLRR saved over 700 unwanted, stray, or injured dogs and cats? They also spayed and neutered over 450 reservation dogs and cats. Many in the community have heard about RLRR, but many do not know who they are, what they do, why.

RLRR is all-volunteer organization that tries to improve the life of dogs and cats on the reservation. There are too many animals and many don't have a home. Many are sick and many do not have food to eat or fresh water to drink. RLRR wants to help people learn how to take better care of their animals and end overpopulation by spaying and neutering the animals.

Karen Good started the rescue in 2006 with the support of a Board of Directors. She built a shelter on her property to house stray and unwanted dogs and cats. Karen feeds and cares for all of the shelter animals daily. Many of the animals need medicine or other special care because of starvation, illness and injuries. Karen never has a day off, since the shelter animals need care seven days a week, all year long.

RLRR sponsors four clinics a year to fix animals and give them shots. The rescue must raise funds to pay for the clinics. They cost about $7000 each.

Red Lake Rosie's also has other expenses, including veterinary care for the shelter animals, medicines, shelter and van repairs, and gas for the van.

While RLRR does a lot to help many stray and unwanted animals, the rescue isn't able to pay for veterinary care for animals that are wanted and already have homes.
