Genevieve P. Adams

Genevieve P. Adams, 80, of Bemidji, formerly of Kelliher, whose Indian name was zhingos which means "weasel" died after a lengthy battle with cancer on Friday, June 27, 2014 at Good Samaritan Society, Blackduck, MN.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Kelliher with Rev. Raul Perez-Cobo officiating. A visitation will be held from 5 - 7 PM on Tuesday, July 1st at Cease Funeral Home, Blackduck with a prayer service held 7 PM, and visitation will be held one hour prior to mass at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Kelliher, MN. Active Pallbearers will be Ronald Adams, Jr., Raymond Adams, Derek Adams, Corey Whitefeather, James Cloud, and Joey Adams. Honorary Pallbearers will be Virginia Spears, Peggy White, Justina Halvarson, Margarete Porter, Karen Mayberry, Angie Swanson, and all of Genevieve's children and grandchildren.

Genevieve was born into the Wolf Clan on April 1, 1934 in Ponsford, MN, the daughter of William B. and Agnes (White) Norcross. She was raised in Ponemah, MN and attended school at St. Mary's Mission school in Red Lake, MN. She married John W. Adams on April 2, 1966 in Kelliher, MN. They lived in Kelliher many years and she later moved to Bemidji after the passing of her husband John in December of 1986. She was a homemaker most of her life, was a very good cook and was known for her fry bread. She was a very forgiving and loving lady and a member of the Catholic Church. She always embraced her Native American heritage. She enjoyed going to Pow-Wows, doing needle point, crocheting, & puzzles, and playing Bingo & card games.

Genevieve is survived by her children, Gregory (Glenda) Norcross of Minneapolis, MN, Michael Norcross of Duluth, MN, Ronald (Cynthia) Adams of Blackduck, Glenda Adams of Northome, Joseph Adams of Grand Rapids, MN, Cherie (Jim Guinn) Adams of Kelliher, MN, and Randall Adams of Bemidji, MN; her sister, Marlene (Tim) Schulman of Cass Lake, MN; her brother, Chuck Norcross of Champlin, MN; 36 Grandchildren; 55 Great Grandchildren; and 7 Great Great Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband John Adams; a daughter Carol Whitefeather; a daughter in law Mary Lou Norcross; 3 grandchildren; 1 sister; and 3 brothers.
