Carter Redeagle, 41, of Susanville, CA and formerly of Red Lake, MN died Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from injuries in an automobile accident in Red Lake.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 24, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Red Lake with Fr. Jerry Rogers officiating. A wake begins 3:00 p.m., Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Little Rock Community Center, Red Lake and will continue until the service. Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Red Lake.

Carter James Redeagle was born March 1, 1973 in Minneapolis to Patricia Redeagle and Morris Smith and raised by special parents, Mary and the late Richard Sumner Sr. He grew up in Red Lake and attended St. Mary's Mission School in Red Lake, attended school in Wahpeton, ND and high school in Flandreau, SD and Chemawa, OR. In 1991 he moved to Susanville, CA where he lived until the time of his death. He enjoyed working as an executive cook and spending time with his children and his dog, April.

He is survived by his mother, Patricia Redeagle; father, Morris Smith; special parent, Mary Sumner; children, Mary Redeagle, Ira Sam, Adalia Redeagle and Elden Redeagle; sisters, Billie Jean Redeagle (James Cobenais) and Shanelle Sigana; foster sisters, Melanie Sumner and Thelma (Bill) May; brothers, Shawn Martin (Tori Lussier), Derek Smith (MJ Cloud) and Randy Norris; foster brothers, Gregory Sumner, Richard Sumner Jr. (Terri Stately), Preston Sumner, Rodney Spears Sr., Gerry Beaulieu, Derek Beaulieu Sr. and Douglas Beaulieu (Lori Maxwell); aunts, Kathy Anderson, Helen Anderson, Marsha Needham, Merseline White, Marilyn Littlecreek, Marlys King, Marla Benais and Patricia Maxwell; uncles, Clifford Vesely, Burt Redeagle and Adrian Lussier and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by special father, Richard Sumner Sr.; sister, Theresa Redeagle; brothers, Brian "Bruno" Redeagle and Lester Sumner; maternal grandparents, Myrtle Verna Frog and Clifford Redeagle; paternal grandparents, John Lussier Sr. and Margaret Benais.

So sorry to hear about the passing of my old friend Carter. He was a great person who loved to laugh, joke around and sing. I attended Wahpeton Indian School with Carter and have good memories. That was long ago. I wish I could have caught up with him through the years and shared some laughs. God bless his family, Billie Jean, and all those who new him. Rest peacefully my friend.
