Mark Kingbird, 61, "Bimose Binishii" which means 'Walking Bird', of Ponemah, Minnesota passed away at Sanford Health Bemidji on May 20, 2014, surrounded by his family and friends. Mark was born on April 27, 1953 in Red Lake, Minnesota, the son of Axel "Johnson" Kingbird and Faye Kingbird of Ponemah, Minnesota

Mark was a singer, song composer, teacher and also a carpenter in his early days. He enjoyed visiting with his children, grandchildren, his friends and family. He loved making people laugh, he loved to play cribbage and aggravation. Mark enjoyed writing songs for his friends and family. He liked to play pool and going to the casino. Mark was on The American Indian Dance Theatre through which he traveled all over the world as a singer and dancer. He had held numerous jobs but his most compassionate work in his life was making songs for his sons and for the people.

Mark is preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Susie, Mary and Peggy, brother; Johnson, niece; Webby, nephew; Royal, numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.

Mark is survived by his special friend Diane, his children's mother Edith, sons; Naiche (Mark) Graves, Chaske Bugg, Armondo (Valerie) Jones, Mark (Cherie) Kingbird, Dallas (Kateri) Kingbird, Nay Gahj (Chelsey) Kingbird, Montana (Aanni) Kingbird and Randy (Bridgette) Norris, daughters; Shannon (Wilbert) Hardy and Natasha (Randy) Kingbird, brothers; James 'Ames' Kingbird, Royce (Stephanie) Kingbird, Vernon Kingbird and Albert 'T' Kingbird, sisters; Martha Smith and Pauline Hamlin, 34 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, uncle; Lyman Kingbird and numerous nieces and nephews.

A wake for Mark will begin at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 21, 2014 and continue until his traditional native celebration at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 23, 2014 all being held at the Boys and Girls Club in Ponemah, Minnesota. Helping to lay Mark to rest are his pallbearers Robert Kingbird, Brian Graves, Jr., McKinley 'Mack' Kingbird, Keveon Kingbird, Kevin Kingbird, Sheldon Smith, Alfred 'Toadgie' Kingbird and Jay Barrett. Alternate pallbearers are Ronald Kingbird and Jeff Iceman. His honorary pallbearers are Pete Gahbow, Eric Gahbow, Ron White, Pete White, Bruce White, Roger Gotchie, Darryl Northbird, Kenny Merrick, Jr., Piggy Wind, Arlan Medicine, Darryl Medicine, Tiny Bellanger, Willy Strong, Johnny Smith and all his singing buddies and pow-wow family and friends. Interment will be in the Kingbird Family Burial Grounds at Ponemah, Minnesota following the service.
