Richard Allen Burnett

Richard Allen Burnett, 72, of Cass Lake, began his spiritual journey on April 19, 2014 at the Sanford Hospital in Fargo. He was born on July 24th, 1941 in Cass Lake, the son of James and Altha Burnett.

Richard was an avid woodsman. He had his own sawmill and loved to cut wood. This allowed him to build almost anything. With Richard being a handyman, he could fix anything too. When you walk into Richard and Nina's home, you see a piece of Richard everywhere. Those things include the house itself, the fireplace, all the cabinets and other knickknacks. He always stayed busy and when he had some spare time he would go hunting and fishing. Richard also loved his dogs. Every once in a while you would catch him giving them some peanut pretzels or some of his peanut m and m's. It was quite a captive audience.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents James and Altha, sister; Betty Oliver and one brother; James Burnett.

He is survived by his wife Nina Burnett, sons; Chris Burnette, Richard Northbird and David Northbird, daughters; Mary Burnette, Vicki Northbird, Sheila Northbird, and Tina Northbird, sister; Beverly (Milt) Hensley, brother; Phil Burnette, numerous nieces, nephews, and grand baby's.

A wake service for Richard will begin at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 23, at the Veteran's Memorial Building in Cass Lake and will continue until the 3:30 p.m. service the same day. Rev. Mark R. Olson will officiate. Pallbearers for Richard will be Jack Grandy, Alvie Alger, Dusty Burnette, Kevin Burnette, Jim Anderson, Casey Anderson, Chad Weller and Kobe Weller. Honorary pallbearers will be all his grand children, nieces and nephews. Richard will be laid to rest by his home in Cass Lake following the service.

Richard's care has been entrusted to Northern Peace Funeral Home of Walker, MN. Online condolences for the family may be given at http://www.northernpeace.com
