Participants learn a core five-step action plan to support an adolescent developing signs and symptoms of mental illness or in an emotional crisis: Assess for risk of harm; Listen non-judgmentally; Give reassurance and information; Encourage appropriate professional help; Encourage self-help and other support strategies.

Children's Challenging Behaviors "0shki Bi'maa-diziwin-Anishinabe" for American Indian Families.

This workshop provides education and support to families who have a child diagnosed with a mental illness and/or who has challenging behaviors. The workshop is designed to teach parents and caregivers how to advocate for their child in school, and to help parents and caregivers develop a plan of action for their child that includes partnerships between home, school and community. Parents/families will learn how challenging behaviors and mental illnesses may affect a child's behavior and school performance as well as their overall mental wellness, and explore ways to successfully support a child with challenging behaviors or a mental illness.

Mental Health Crisis Planning

Learn the role of county crisis teams, de-escalation techniques, and how to create effective crisis plans. This 1.5 hour workshop also provides information on community resources.

Recognizing Early Warning Signs of Mental Illness in Children and Adolescents

Early intervention and treatment is essential for a child's success. This two hour workshop provides information on the biological nature of mental illness and how parents and teachers can work together as allies to support these students. This workshop meets the continuing education requirement for teachers.

The Behavioral Health Conference has been planned and organized by the Red Lake Vocational Rehabilitation Services Program with many volunteers helping in the planning process. We will prepare a post-conference report and acknowledge all those who have helped us. If anybody should have any questions, please call RLVR at 218-679-2152.
