Verona Aileene Jones, 58 of Ponemah, began her spiritual journey on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Sanford Hospital in Bemidji, MN. She was born on March 31, 1955 in Ponemah the daughter of Kenneth and Lillian (Kingbird) Jones.

Verona liked reading, sewing, going to pow-wows and ceremonies, being with family and jogging when she was younger. It was very important to her to educate people through example. Her sobriety taught others in so many ways. She believed in being a good person and you could see it in her every day. Community was also important to Verona she always gave back to it. She loved education. Verona went to school in Red Lake, she attended the Minneapolis Technical College for Business and finally Beauty College in Minneapolis.

Verona was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Lillian, brothers; Kenneth Jones, Jr., Greg Kingbird and Burton Jones, one sister; Jennifer Kingbird.

She is survived by her sons; Llewellyn Sean Sheppard and Cyrus Douglas Sheppard, daughters; Demetria Jones and Delilah Lillian Sheppard, brothers; Vernon, Nick, Brad and Arthur Jones, grandchildren; Paris, Lewis, Keith, Vera and Rosie Sheppard, Aliah Williams, Tea Williams and Adian Jones. Verona also leaves behind her dogs that she loved so much, Baby and Izzy.

A wake for Verona will begin at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 20, 2014 and continue until the 11:00 a.m. service on Saturday, February 22, all at the Boys and Girls Club in Ponemah. Spiritual Leader will be Allen Hardy.

Interment will be held in the Jones-Kingbird family cemetery in Ponemah following the service on Saturday.
