Dora Jean Kingbird, “Akiiwe`zii” (old man) age 71, of Ponemah, Minnesota Journeyed to the Spirit World on Friday, February 7, 2014 at The Jourdain Perpich Extended Care in Red Lake, Minnesota.

She was born on August 3, 1942 in Red Lake, Minnesota the daughter of Charles Kingbird and Norma Sullivan.

Dora worked at the Ponemah Headstart and E.N.P. as a cook. She was a C.N.A. at The Jourdain Perpich Extended Care Facility.

She loved playing cards, her favorite game was solitare, she liked to do her word find books, watching GSN-game show network, she liked to gamble. She was known for her baked beans, delicious outside bread, baked bread and of course her fry bread.

Her grandchildren and great grandchildren always brought a smile to her face when they would go visit her in her little cozy trailer house.

She is survived by her daughters: Wanda Kingbird, Glendoris (Rick) Jones and Doreen (Shaun) French all of Ponemah, Minnesota; sons: Emerson (Ashley) Kingbird, Adrian (Leslie) Kingbird and Llewellyn Kingbird Sr. all of Ponemah, Minnesota; step sons: Lawrence (Nadine) Kingbird of Barnum, Benjamin (Maggie) Kingbird Sr. of Redby, Minnesota and Calvin (Evelyn) Kingbird Sr.; her very special grandchildren who she raised: Clinton Villanueva, Dorie French, Lori Kingbird and Shanna French; her grandchildren: Dorie, Lori, Clinton, Savanna, Manuela, Madisson, Shanna, Shauna, Shayla, Shyan, Shaun Jr., Adrienne, Llewellyn Jr., Annessa and Jordan; great grandchildren: Aariyannah, Amealieano Jr., Ti`Andra, Aalainah, Andre`, Quesean, Andrew and Nino; her adopted sons: Harold Raincloud Sr., Michael Hawk and her adopted daughters: LaRayne “Kim” Martin and Glennis Johns; her dog: Windsor and her cat Bella; her brothers: Duane Kingbird of Red Lake, Myron “Rose” Kingbird Sr. and Isaac Kingbird Sr.; sister: Marlene French; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by her companion of thirty eight years: Clarence Kingbird, their son: Clinton Wayne Kingbird, her brothers: Wallace Sr., Melvin Charles “Tiny” Sr., Emerson, Norman and Melvin, her sisters: Catherine and Gladys and her great granddaughter: Nikki, her mother: Norma S. Kingbird and father: Charles “Charlie” Kingbird.

Funeral services for Dora Jean Kingbird will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at The Boys & Girls Club in Ponemah, Minnesota. Steve Jackson will officiate.

Interment will follow at The Kingbird Family burial grounds in Ponemah, Minnesota.

All night wakes will be held on Monday, February 10th and Tuesday, February 11th beginning at 4:00 P.M. at The Boys & Girls Club in Ponemah, Minnesota.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be Charlene Kingbird, Bonnie Mae Kingbird, Brenda Kingbird, Lisa French, Robin Kingbird, Glennis Johns, Darilyn Cook, Virginia Spears, Gloria Cloud, Bonita Kingbird and Patricia Stillday, all the staff at The Jourdain Perpich Extended Care Facility.

Casket Bearers will be Clinton Villanueva, Mitchell Kingbird, Charles “Chuck” Kingbird Sr., Wallace Kingbird III, Douglas Beaulieu, Llewellyn Kingbird Jr., Andrew French and Kyle French.
