Man who represented himself gets 40 years for murder

DULUTH — A man convicted of a 2012 murder in Duluth was sentenced Friday to serve 40 years in prison.

Joshua Lee Littlewolf, 43, will need to serve at least two-thirds of the sentence. Littlewolf was convicted in September of second-degree murder for the April 2012 stabbing death of 28-year-old Joshua Olson.

Littlewolf, who represented himself in court, maintained his innocence during the sentencing hearing, claiming the Native Mob was behind Olson’s killing.

The victim’s father, Darrell Olson, made an emotional statement prior to sentencing, saying he lost his best friend. Then he turned his attention to Littlewolf, asking for the maximum guideline sentence.

“I hope he rots in hell,” Darrell Olson said. “I really do. He’s the devil.”

Littlewolf, given an opportunity to make a statement, again claimed that he was not Olson’s killer.

“I understand Mr. Olson and the predicament of losing his son,” he said. “But the Native Mob is the one who killed him. I ain’t the one who killed him.”

Judge Shaun Floerke then cut him off, immediately imposing the maximum sentence. Sentencing guidelines called for between 30 and 40 years.
