AFP-MN Urges House Members to Vote for Delay of Obamacare Mandates

Administration should not "leave [everyday Minnesotans] in the dust," said state director Cooney.

SAINT PAUL – Americans for Prosperity-Minnesota is urging House lawmakers to vote Yes on two bills coming to the floor tomorrow (Wednesday). The Authority for Mandate Delay Act (H.R. 2667) would codify President Obama's decision to delay the employer mandate under ObamaCare; and the Fairness for American Families Act (H.R. 2668) would extend the same delay to the individual mandate.

By delaying the employer mandate, the Obama administration has demonstrated that the law passed in 2010 in simply unworkable; yet they have yet to also grant a reprieve to individuals, pitting them against the well-being of Americans who still don’t support the law.

AFP-MN State Director John Cooney released the following statement before the vote:

“The Obama administration should not play politics by lending businesses a hand and leaving the rest of us in the dust. This is a simple matter of fairness. If large companies are going to get a reprieve from mandates and penalties, the average Minnesotan certainly deserves the same treatment.

“As premiums drift higher and the economy continues to struggle, the last thing hard-working Minnesota families need is one more botched government program to pay for. Still worse, our newest generation of workers may be hit hardest, as costs are shifted from the old and sick to the young and healthy, another blow to our economic growth.

“With each passing day, it becomes clearer that ObamaCare is bad medicine for the country. In light of this calamitous rollout, it’s only responsible that the key provisions of the law be delayed, and ultimately, repealed entirely. I strongly urge the Minnesota delegation to support these delays."
