One arrested on multiple felony charges following alleged fight

BEMIDJI — A man is in custody and police are still sorting out the details of a fight early Wednesday during which gunshots were reported.

Bemidji Police Chief Mike Mastin said no weapons or shell casings were found at the scene of the incident — Ridgeway Apartments, 2910 Ridgeway Ave. NW — where police were called at 1:22 a.m. Wednesday.

“At this point I still have a lot of unanswered questions,” he said, adding the investigation is in its initial stages.

Bruce Lee Armstrong, 21, was booked into the Beltrami County Jail on felony charges of kidnapping, possession of a weapon by an ineligible person, second-degree assaults and terroristic threats as a result of the alleged altercation.

He did not have bail set Wednesday and remains in custody.

Armstrong has a criminal history that includes a 2012 misdemeanor conviction for fleeing a peace officer. In 2011 Armstrong was sentenced to one year and one day for felony fifth-degree drug possession. He was sent to the St. Cloud Correctional Facility with credit for 239 days, according to court documents.

Mastin said the investigation is ongoing.
