Cass Lake man arrested for string of burglaries

BEMIDJI — A Cass Lake man was arrested Friday and charged in a string of thefts in Bemidji, officials said.

Last week, a rash of burglaries was reported to the Bemidji Police Department. Unoccupied homes had been entered during daytime hours while residents were away, officials said. Items taken from the homes included valuable coins, jewelry, laptop computers and a firearm, police said.

Neighbors told investigators they had seen a man going door-to-door offering yard work services.

During the investigation, police identified the suspect as Peter James Thompson, 53, of Cass Lake.

He was arrested on Friday and charged with several counts of burglary, theft, possession of burglary tools, possession of controlled substances and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
