Public Art Toolkit is now online

Working in partnership with Region 2 Arts Council and eight other regional arts councils in the state, Forecast Public Art, a St. Paul-based nonprofit whose mission is to strengthen and advance the field of public art, has launched an on-line “toolkit” for people who want to create more pubic art, but aren’t sure how to get started.

The 20,000 square-foot terrazzo floor at the Sanford Events Center in Bemidji is one of three examples of public art case studies highlighted in the Forecast Public Art Toolkit. Using the Sanford Center as an example, artists, organizations, and businesses interested in proposing a public art project can gain insight into the process from start to finish.

The toolkit also includes a glossary of public art terminology, a gallery of public art images and videos, and other educational resources, including media clippings, contract templates, and links to other good resources.

Forecast will periodically update the Toolkit content in response to the needs of its users. The Toolkit can be accessed through Forecast’s website http://www.forecastpublicart.org or through the Region 2 Arts Council website http://r2arts.org.

This activity is funded, in part, by the Minnesota State Arts and Cultural Heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the Legacy Amendment vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008.
