DULUTH, Minn. — A Duluth man accused of killing his mother agreed on Tuesday to waive his right to a trial and will have his case decided by a judge. Carmen Emigdio Mosqueda, 39, is charged with intentional second-degree murder in the September 2014 stabbing death of his mother, 71-year-old Mary Margaret Mosqueda, at her Lincoln Park residence. VIRGINIA, Minn. — A man suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being shot by a St. Louis County Sheriff's Office deputy early Tuesday, Nov. 22, following a high-speed chase on the Iron Range, authorities said. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension reported that the shooting happened after a 17-minute pursuit that started in Virginia and continued through Eveleth. CROOKSTON, Minn. — A Crookston woman who was apparently living in a tent died shortly after being found unresponsive at a site off a highway Friday night. Erin Koplitz was discovered about 10:50 p.m. Friday north of the Highway 75 bypass bridge west of Crookston, according to a press release from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Koplitz was taken to Riverview Hospital in Crookston, where she was pronounced dead, the release states. ST. PAUL — Two deer from this fall’s hunt have tested positive for chronic wasting disease, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. The deer, both male, were harvested near Lanesboro, in southeastern Minnesota’s Fillmore County, about one mile apart. One deer has been confirmed as CWD-positive, while the other is expected to be confirmed as positive later this week, according to the DNR.
